Splice...Refreshing and Original

This is an example of true science fiction horror. So you got Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Interestingly enough one may notice the scientists name their creature Dren (nerd spelled backwards), which after watching the film you realize why... In a small way, the movie reminds me a bit of Jurassic Park and when you see you know exactly why.

It's quite refreshing to see a film such as this with all its twists and turns. Please believe you are in for a roller coaster ride. The story becomes highly engrossing as the viewer is able to follow the creature's development alongside the two scientists, who at the same time are in a strained relationship of ethical and logistical dilemmas. The two central performances are definitely one to key in on, but the true star is Dren; a true convincing CGI creation. With a combination of  great actors, a fascinating look, and an intelligent, almost poetic screenplay...you truly enjoy the film for all that it has to offer. It's propably not for everyone, but it does rank up there with some of the best Sci-Fi-/Fantasy-movies (think Pan's Labyrinth).

In the beginning, I did not know what to expect with this movie, accept that there may not be a happy ending. You almost feel like that their is still potential in Hollywood to put out good quality flicks. See movies like this make you really think about what is yet to come for human DNA experimentation....Scary...
