MMA star is set to play in "The A-Team" remake!

According to The Sun, mixed martial arts star Quinton "Rampage" Jackson could be set to play the role of B.A. Baracus in the June 2010 remake of The A-Team.

Its actually quite interesting and surprising considering there were several other choices that were possibly to be slated, including 50 Cent, Ice Cube, The Game and even Common (not too sure on that one) had been mentioned for the gig made famous in the 80s by Mr. T.

The movie is being directed by Joe Carnahan, the man behind Smokin' Aces. Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) and Liam Neeson (Taken) have already been cast.

Well whether he gets the role or not, the film is set to come out June of next year. I am pondering whether or not I will see this one....hmmmm!

Is Car selling this Funny?!

If you like Talledega Nights and Step Brothers this will definitely be a flick for you to see! The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard is a 2009 comedy film that will have you cracking up from the minute the film starts. This all-star cast including Jeremy Piven, James Brolin, Ving Rhames, and David Koechner just to name a few show you how its done when it comes to selling cars!

In a desperate attempt to save his rapidly failing used car dealership, Ben Selleck hires a crack team of "car mercenaries" to ramp up sales during the Fourth of July weekend. Led by the fast-talking, foul-mouthed, self-assured Don "The Goods" Ready, the group has three days to sell over 200 cars. But as Don undertakes his newest mission, and quickly falls for the boss's daughter Ivy, he realizes he'll have to trust more than his cars and his crafty skills in deceit to make a success out of the daunting weekend.

When it all boiled down that best sums up this flick. There is no rhyme or reason just simple and straight to the point. The Goods is just one of those pointless films that really has no plot, but it makes you laugh. And sometimes in this world that is good enough.

Now I will say this, Piven's performance is one to be expected but at least he does not let you down though. As a matter of fact all the actors add an essential piece to the movie, making it one of a kind. One of the highlights is the movie is really not that long (89 mins), but it also has several twist and turns with each of its intriguing characters to keep your attention.

I will admit this, it's not the funniest movie this year, but it does make a good attempt at trying. This is the type of movie STRICTLY for adults. The humor and conversation is made for those who have pretty much lived their life already.

Breaking NEWS!!

ATTENTION!!! This was just brought to my attention and I had to share with you guys!!

Picture this music, dancing, singing, and tons of fun!!! The end result => .... Soul Train: The Movie...Have I got your attention on this one. Just when you thought Hollywood had exhausted all ideas to turn into a movie something new comes in the works!

Malcolm Spellman, one of the names behind Dead Presidents, will write a feature for Warner Bros. based on the iconic music show Soul Train! And you know how much EVERYONE loved that show back in the day! Some people even had to sneak and watch because their parents thought it was risque'...hmmm imagine that! Now that is what you call classic tv right there! And considering Dead Presidents was a great flick I think this might be a film worth seeing!

"According to early word, the 80s-centered film will revolve around a cat who comes from the L.A. hood, and his ticket to success is his gift of popping, a street dance made famous by b-boys and girls across inner-city corners. No stars or street dates have yet been made available."

Now you know the list of musicians is going to be endless but I got a few folks in mind, what about you? And you know they are going to have to show two key elements: the "Soul Train Scramble Board" and of course the ever popular "Soul Train Line"!! And then to put the cherry on the top we would have to close out with, "...We wish you love, peace... and SOUL!"

Here is a taste of what we could see:

What ya think folks?!!

Rewind Wednesday: Rising Sun

Today's Rewind Wednesday is definitely a throwback! This is a film that came out during Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery's prime filming days. If you haven't guessed it with that clue it would be that of 1993 crime/mystery/thriller Rising Sun. I felt compelled to choose this one considering HBO and AMC kept showing it on tv I figured why not!

Just in case you don't know here is a little synopsis of the film:

During a party at the United States offices of a Japanese corporation, a professional escort is found dead, apparently after a violent sexual encounter. Police Detective Web Smith (Wesley Snipes) and John Connor (Sean Connery), a former police Captain and expert on Japanese affairs, are sent to investigate. During the initial investigation, Smith believes the evidence indicates a sexual encounter and murder, however Connor insists there is a deeper involvement by the corporation. After a grueling investigation Connor receives a disc which contains the surveillance footage from the night of the murder. This later turns out to be a digitally altered video of the actual murder.
The alteration implicates Eddie (
Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), who is the son of a wealthy Japanese businessman. After recovering the original unaltered footage the video shows that the prostitute was only unconscious following rough sex with a powerful politician at the party, and that a company employee strangled her after the politician left. The head of the company was unaware of the crime and subsequent cover up, and exiled the perpetrator of the cover up to a desk job in Japan. The murderer himself runs away when he is identified, but is soon taken care of by Eddies Yakuza friends.

Rising Sun was one of those movies that you truly enjoyed from beginning to end because you would soak up so much, that it would leave you speechless. Since this was based on the book (same title) by Micheal Crichton I pretty much expected quality work. Not only that there was an amazing all-star cast including Sean Connery (who was also the executive producer), Wesley Snipes, Harvey Keitel and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. that would lay down the foundation for this great film!

I will admit the movie is not always easy to understand but if you give it a couple of looks, which it's definitely worth doing, all the pieces finally fit and it's a good two hours of entertainment. Connery and Snipes complement each other as a "buddy" cop duo with Connery being mostly responsible for making this story interesting. "The still-suave ex-James Bond plays the cool veteran and it's fun to watch him operate." Great thriller with great characters.

It would end up spending six weeks in the Top 10 during the time that it was in theaters.

Rewind Wednesday: Summer Vacation Syle

As the summer approaches its final turn, I wanted to make sure we took a little brief "film vacation" by showcasing National Lampoons Vacation as our Rewind Wednesday feature! This is a classic summer movie that can be viewed almost every other week on someone's tv station. This 1983 comedy film directed by Harold Ramis and starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid, Dana Barron and Anthony Michael Hall. It was also feature numerous others, such as comedians John Candy and Imogene Coca, supermodel Christie Brinkley, and future 30 Rock regular Jane Krakowski.

Every summer Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) takes his family on a little trip. This year he went too far. The Griswold family are on a quest. A quest to a Walley World theme park for a family vacation, but things aren't going to go exactly as planned. Along the way to Walley World, everything and everything that can go wrong does, and Clark ends up with Aunt Edna (Imogene Coca), who adds more fun to this wallop of a comedy. The laughter just escalates more and more as we see Clark's dreams flush down the toilet farther and farther. Basically, this film starts out strong and ends strong.

National Lampoons Vacation would do significantly well at the box-office, earning more than $61 million in the United States with an estimated budget of $15 million. In 2000, readers of Total Film magazine voted National Lampoon's Vacation the 46th greatest comedy film of all time. It is widely considered to be the best film in National Lampoon's series of Vacation films, and continues to be a popular film and a staple on cable television channels.

The original story is (reportedly) a fictionalized account of his own family's ill-fated trip to Disneyland (changed to Walley World for the film) when Hughes was a boy. The success of the movie helped launch his screenwriting career. Is it no surprise that John Hughes, the king writer/director of the 80's comedy films wrote this, or that Harold Ramis (Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Striped, Analyze This) directed the film?

This is one of those type of movies that shows you how to make a timeless, original, hysterical, and satirical comedy!!

A clip from when Clark has reached his boiling point!! LOL

Keenen Ivory Wayans is on board to direct the sequel, which all three Wayans are writing. The logline for the new entry is being kept under wraps.

The original was a surprise hit, grossing almost $70 million domestically from a budget of around $37 million.

District 9...Got me on Cloud 9

First let me say I was a bit hesitant to go see this movie but a good buddy of mine NewsRevolver made some comments which sparked my interest so I figured why not go!

Now this is the only piece of info that I will give you and trust me its enough to get you pumped to get your popcorn and cherry icee and watch this flick... The film opens with a documentary-style series of interviews that introduce the situation. An alien ship is seen coming towards earth and arrives above Johannesburg, South Africa. Now if you are not into science-fiction you may not get into at first but I guarantee it will not disappoint you. These days a movie can truly shock and surprise ya!
In my opinion this is more than just your average "alien vs. human" film, there is actual substance that sticks to the bones. It gets on a level that elevates into the higher realms of social commentary. In an interesting sort of way you see the aliens present almost as much as the animals, however on the flip side one begins to quickly start to sympathize with the aliens and tune into their "true desperation."

Typically when one watches these films, one will see like in many other films it covers the worst that humans can do, and trust me YOU WILL see that there is brutal violence present. Basically the director did not shy away from depicting it at all. Put it like this, you do not want to watch this after a big meal. The characters are believable and the style of the film just adds icing to the cake. Now the scary yet truthfulness of this film is that "this could have happened, and just might in fact happen!" Marinate on that!!

Another great thing about this movie was that its only a little over 112mins, which is enough to give a knockout punch. Let me put it like this this movie will definitely lead to many discussions, trust me (I won't spoil it for ya!) All in all, this is a film that is worth your every cent. All the way right up until the end you are never quite sure what's going to happen next. I must say director, Neill Blomkamp did a pretty good job for this being his first film. This is definitely one of the best Sci-Fi movies this year and maybe even for awhile to come!

Rewind Wednesday: Double Time!!

In honor of the late filmaker John Hughes, I figure I would pay tribute to him on today's rewind Wednesday. And instead of one you get two for the price of one!! Today's features include: The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

"They only met once, but it changed their lives forever."......The Breakfast Club is a 1985 American teen film written and directed by the late John Hughes. The storyline follows five teenagers (each representing a different clique in high school) as they spend a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that they are all deeper than their respective stereotypes. The film has become a cult classic and has had a tremendous influence on many coming-of-age films since then. And interestingly enough it was shot entirely in sequence beginning on March 28, 1984 and ending May, 1984.

This film was a dead on target examination of teen life in 1984/85. Considering this was a very challenging thing to do--release a film about teens just talking and relating to each other. Just think we can all remember being a teenager. It was truly a crazy, intense time "when your highs were higher and your lows were lower", this made every experience that much more significant. Hughes was truly brilliant in how he captures that environment and all the social hills and valleys that it comprised. To truly understand this film you must think back to your own high school days...Think about your last year there and take it from there.

Each of the film's young stars would also became part of the Brat Pack (whose other members include Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy and Demi Moore), a group of actors who found fame at the same time and were sometimes cast in movies together. Director John Hughes would also make an appearance in an uncredited role as Brian's father. Out of the entire cast, only Hall and Ringwald were actually high school age upon the movie's release; Nelson was twenty-five while Sheedy and Estévez were both twenty-two years old.

In 2005, MTV announced that the film would be rewarded with the Silver Bucket of Excellence Award in honor of its twentieth Anniversary at the MTV Movie Awards. To coincide with the event, MTV attempted to reunite the original cast. Sheedy, Ringwald, and Hall appeared together on stage, with Kapelos in the audience, and Gleason personally gave the award to his former castmates. Estévez could not attend the reunion because of other commitments, and Nelson appeared earlier in the show but left before the on-stage reunion for reasons unknown, prompting Hall to joke that the two were "in Africa with Dave Chappelle."

----------------------------------

Now let's switch the channel here to another classic, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. This 1986 comedy film which was also written and directed by John Hughes. It would star Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Grey.

In this film we get to follow high school senior Ferris Bueller, who decides to skip school and spend the spring day in downtown Chicago. Accompanied by his girlfriend Sloane Peterson and his best friend Cameron Frye, he creatively avoids his school's Dean of Students Edward Rooney, his resentful sister Jeanie, and his parents all in one day. Throughout the film, Broderick occasionally speaks to the camera to explain to the audience his character's techniques and thoughts.

Many have asked, "How can we use a film such as Ferris Bueller's Day Off to consider and reconsider Louis Althusser's theories of ideology, aesthetics, institutions such as schools and families, and mass culture?" Some even say the film simply "portrayed teachers as humorless buffoons." Hmmm something to think about.

Broderick would end up getting nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1987 for Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

This is one of those films that will always be remembered as one of the best comedies for the 80's!

Little Known Facts:

1) Maine North High School in Des Plaines, Illinois was used in the filming of The Breakfast Club, the same school used for some of the school-based scenes in John Hughes's Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which was released just a year after The Breakfast Club.

2) The Breakfast Club was ranked number# 1 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the "50 Best High School Movies" and has had a tremendous impact on both the teen film genre and on popular culture since the 1980s.

3) The theme song titled "Don't You (Forget About Me)", performed by Simple Minds, reached #1 on the U.S. Hot 100 in 1985, where it stayed for 1 week, and has since then become a symbol of teen films. The song has also been repeatedly used in several teen films as well as television programs and in a 2008 back-to-school commercial for the clothing store JC Penney.

4) No soundtrack was ever released for the Ferris Bueller's Day Off, as director John Hughes felt the songs would not work well together as a continuous album. Some of the music was heard out of a radio, supposedly tuned to 89WLS, Chicago in its "MusicRadio" Top40 days. Fred Winston was a featured voice in the movie (heard coming out of a clock radio).

Private Service held for Filmaker John Hughes

On today in a private service held in Lake Forest, IL, John Hughes is being celebrated by family and friends.

The director of "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" died of a heart attack Thursday August 6th during a walk in Manhattan. The 59-year-old Hughes was in New York to visit family.

Many family and friends were there to support including many of his cast members/colleagues, these would include Vince Vaughn, Ben Stein and Matthew Broderick. Ben Stein would have these words to say regarding the service, "very touching" and "a lot of crying."

Such a great filmaker taken too soon. I can remember watching all of his films especially "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and thinking to myself these movies are going to be classic one day, and sure enough they are more than we can even imagine. He has definitely left a legacy for many to follow.

My American Hero: "G.I. Joe"

I know who my American hero is!! G.I. Joe!! Well I must say I was very excited about seeing this film, and I was not disappointed at all with it. From beginning to end, your attention was grabbed and you had no choice but to be glued to the screen. Just think what could be better than seeing an "elite" military unit comprised of special operatives destined to save the world.

Its interesting how we are able to go ten years into the future and see the emergence of the Cobra organization as well as the induction of of both Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) into the G.I. Joe squad. Now I will admit if there was a major flaw is was that the movies did seem a bit "loud" noise wise. One kinda could have felt like there were literally in a battlefield but just worse. To a small degree it was somewhat of a distraction but then at the same time it did kind of enhance the film as well. On the flip side be prepared for the unexpected because it will get you if you don't pay close attention to the storyline and details. You will have the opportunity to piece things together so that you can better understand the story of G.I. Joe and that's a great thing considering you don't have to have any real prior knowledge.

Keep this in mind the one thing that Transformers 2 had over G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra was the actual fighting scenes. Transformers was bit more clear and precise whereas G.I. Joe lacked that in a few areas. One could not really appreciate the fight sequences because they went ot fast. However, this ensemble cast was just right to entertain as well as make us believe. We were able to see veteran actors, some semi-new, and a few fresh off the docket!! And from those pairing I can have greater respect for the people involved in the cast. There was a perfect combination of humor, seriousness, excitement, and of course action. If you are a fan of the morning cartoon and comic book you will definitely appreciate what the movie has to offer! This is a definite must "go see film" it will appease your pallette of fun and action, and top it off the special effects will literally blow your mind. G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is another one of those movies set to purely entertain and not be taken too seriously. Stay tuned once the film ends because this is just the beginning, there is definitely more to come!

Perfect Summer Flick!

Rewind Wednesday: Army Edition

In honor of the new G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra flick coming out on this weekend, I found it fitting to to showcase a movie in the same realm... GI Jane!

G.I. Jane is a 1997 action film that tells the fictional story of the first woman to undergo training in U.S. Navy Special Warfare Group. Although often believed to be U.S. Navy SEAL training, the character of Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil is selected to undergo SEAL/CRT Training for the fictional Combined Reconnaissance Team of the U.S. Navy. Unlike actual U.S. Navy SEAL training, the SEAL/CRT course depicted in the film is offered at the fictional Catalano Naval Base (meant to be located near Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, Florida), rather than at Coronado Naval Amphibious Base in California. Lieutenant Jordan O'Neil (played by Demi Moore) is hand-picked by U.S. Senator Lillian DeHaven (Anne Bancroft) to go through the rigorous training right along with the men. O'Neil faces sexism and physical challenges as well as the horse-trading by the Senator who selected her for the experimental program. (Wikipedia)

I must admit Ridley scott put his foot in this one, definitely a great movie to watch!! One critic even said, "it is incredibley refreshing to see a movie with a woman who can prove that she is strong and capable, without resorting the typical cliched lines that the 'tough' women always use in most movies." As a viewer we are able to take Demi's character very seriously and not just another women trying to push her way into society. And even though the critics did not speak to highly of the film, I will have to say it definitely stood out and to me that made it a good movie!

Here is one of the essential scenes from the film...

Just in case you haven't seen the G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra trailer:
