Takers...Well worth the wait!!

Wow!! After waiting for some time, wondering when this film would debut and it finally hits the big screen in a major way!!

Now don't get me wrong I loved The Italian Job, but I think Takers did a better job with the same type of plot and just expanded it even more. The focus was not just on the bank heist, but everything else around it that led to its beginning and fatal end.

I can appreciate a well-though out plot (although not original), that is elevated and expounded upon so that you can venture into new territory. And actually with this movie it kinda reminded me of a Set It Off with a twist of The Italian Job. This film is a unique take on a classic premise.

The film truly takes a brisk start, which I like versus waiting and building and potentially losing your audience. And once it gets going that is when the true fun begins. Right off the bat you get this cinematography vibe similar to the Bourne series as well as the recent Casino Royale, which might appear shaky yet they are still able to pull it off.

The extreme car chases and shootouts contain a level of energy and suspense that really makes them standout!

One thing the stood out automatically besides the action was the color combination throughout the film. It varied from bright to dark, from cool to calm. By changing up the color direction I think it gave the movie more depth versus the typical monotony of day and night.

All in all, the cast is amazing, each character brings their A-game and the audience is truly greatful for that! Marianna Jean-Baptiste, Idris Elba, Chris Brown, Paul Walker, Matt Dillion & etc all truly fit their roles and gave a show worth watching. Essentially, no one dropped the ball, which could have easily been done, thus each character was believable while showing off their talents.

Now I cannot forget to mention that now only do you get to see growth in Chris Brown and T.I. as actors but both have amazing unforgettable scenes within the movie. In particular, Chris Brown (Jesse) has probably one of, if not , the best sequence in the whole movie, without spoiling it you just gotta go to see it!

This was a type of cast that was definitely appealing for the ladies, and action-packed for the guys. So in the end, everybody gets to enjoy!

"Everyone's after something!"

New Folks Added to 'X-Men:First Class'

Well I guess the apple does not fall far from the tree as it pertains to Zoe Kravitz. Daughter of rocker and 'Precious' star Lenny Kravitz and 'Cosby Show' actress Lisa Bonet, has been chosen to play Angel in the upcoming comic book film, X-Men: First Class.

In a surprising casting move, she will play Angel who if you remembered and saw the last of the original X-Men trilogy, X-Men: The Last Stand is a white male and was played by Ben Foster in the third film.

According to Screenrant.com, "Angel is a character we thought for sure had no chance of being in the film ('First Class') since he was introduced in' X-Men 3' as someone with no prior knowledge or ties with the X-Men. If you're keeping track, the 'X-Men: First Class' movie currently only sits with two of the five actual original characters from Marvel Comics canon and one arguably shouldn't be there. That being said, this clearly isn't the same Angel we know but instead, the character known as Angel Salvadore."

And check this out, the 21 year-old Kravitz was dating Foster back in 2008.

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto. It starts when they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Here's the cast so far:
James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier
Michael Fassbender as Magneto
Bill Milner as Young Magneto
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast
Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee
Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique
Morgan Lily as Young Mystique
Kevin Bacon as the villain
Edi Gathegi as Darwin
Jason Flemyng as Azazel, the father of Nightcrawler
Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert
Oliver Platt as The Man in Black
January Jones as Emma Frost
Zoe Kravitz as Angel

20th Century Fox will release 'X-Men: First Class' in theaters on June 3, 2011.

The Expendables...Old Timers doing their thing!!

This was the perfect movie to see for my birthday weekend!! ACTION...ACTION...and MORE ACTION!!

If there was a movie that Sylvester Stallone needed to make a comeback with, this was the perfect fit! To thinks that he has a about a decade full of failed flicks The Expendables really blew it out the water for me. I was beginning to think all he was good for was 'Rambo' and 'Rocky'...he proved me wrong! The film showcases a group of elite mercenaries, tasked with a mission to overthrow a Latin American dictator. It does a great job of  paying homage to the blockbuster action films of the 1980s and early 1990s, and stars an array of action veterans from those decades!

For me going into this film, I just really was hoping for a good, solid action film and in the end it turned out to be one of the best action hero line ups in cinematic history.  It is easily much more graphic and gory than most modern day action films, but this gives the film much more depth in addition to creating a degree of realism. There is this constant pumping of adrenaline coated with a huge rush of  laughter. You can help but hold on to your seat and just enjoy this thrill ride! Now grant it the plot is no where near original but what movie is these days. At least it wasn't like they were beating a dead horse, in essence they were more like reviving one.

Along with a wonderful supporting cast (Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, as well as others) it gave you that flavor that you have been wanting to just crave and attack. Of course there is the obvious highlight between the friendship of Stallon and Statham's charcter, but it still does not outweigh what the other have to offer. With the twisting subplots (Lundgren), and the constant humor and jokes (Crews & Li) you are sure to get a treat! The cast was perfect picked, I wouldn't have changed it at all!

In addition to your good guys, the nemesis of the film is given an excellent portrayal of the mean, dirty, and grimy villain who is played by Eric Roberts. And I can't forget his trusty henchman  Stone Cold Steve Austin a role that definitely gives him more credibility in the film world that is. And even though we only see them for a brief moment Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger give the audience a moment to say yay they still got it!

The note-worthy thing about this film is that even if it there was not an all-star cast it still would have had the potential to be a great action movie, the fact it has such a jaw dropping cast is icing on the cake!! The Expendables is what you would call a fan-base movie!! Everyone that you love is put into one movie, for your entertainment pleasure!! In the end, this movie proved that an old dog can still learn new tricks...lol!!

Idris Elba to play the new 'Alex Cross'

Well check this out, Takers, (which opens on Aug. 27), star Idris Elba  gave us a little inside scoop while doing some promoting. He stated that he's been offered to play 'Alex Cross', the popular forensic psychologist in author James Patterson's best-selling thrillers.

"I have been offered to play Alex Cross and if that happens, I'm really excited about it," said Elba while speaking at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston on Aug. 9.

'Cross' will be the third Patterson novel to be turned into a movie. It's also the 12th of 16 books that Patterson has written on the character.

As you know Oscar winner Morgan Freeman previously played Cross in the two prior films, Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider.

Cross is described as an African-American detective and psychologist living and working in the Southeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. He works in the homicide division of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD), but eventually becomes a Senior Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After his stint with the FBI, Alex returns to private psychology practice, but continues to consult for the MPD and the FBI as needed, ultimately rejoining the MPD as a special consultant to the Major Case Squad.

He should be pretty familiar with this type of role considering recently he played Detective Chief Inspector John Luther for six episodes in the British psychological crime drama television series 'Luther.'

Elba is truly making his rounds in the movie circuit as we will get to see him in the comic book adaptation of Thor in 2011.

Do your thing Mr. Elba!

Elvis Presley granddaughter to consider "Mad Max" role

As reported in the Hollywood Reporter, Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, is in talks to nab a role in the fourth installment of the "Mad Max" movies, Fury Road.

The movie's plot is being kept secret, but things take place a short while after the story detailed in 1985's Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, the third in the series.

Keough -- the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and musician-actor Danny Keough -- will play one of the "Five Wives," a group of women that Hardy must protect from the bad guys. Zoe Kravitz, Teresa Palmer and Adelaide Clemens are three of other wives.

Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult round out the cast. The movie is eyeing a start date for early next year.

"I WON" ...Lottery Ticket Screening

Well on yesterday I had the pleasure of going to see an advanced screening of the Lottery Ticket, and I will say I was somewhat impressed. It had that funny-yet corny vibe, but it worked. And to add icing on the cake co-stars Bow Wow, Naturi Naughton, and Brandon T. Jackson were also in attendance to give a few tidbits. I must say it was good to see young actors truly investing into there films, and plus they look they had fun while doing it.

Now I could go all day talking about the characters in the movie, everyone played there role to a tee!! And regardless of how big or small the part you were bound to do one of two things cry tears of laughter and or ponder on thought. Case in point, without spoiling it for you Mike Epps, T-Pain, and Charlie Murphy, those three right there will have you rolling over with laughter. And when you think about it, they probably didn't have to put in too much effort considering the type of folks that they are in the entertainment world.

Now a character who really stuck for a not so obvious reason is that of rising star Gbenga Akinnagbe who played the protagonist Lorenzo. One thing that stood out was that although he was a criminal he was a very intellectual one, which at least gave the audience an appreciation of his role. I must admit this was a good mix of actors, all the way from your seasoned ones to the newbies. Thank goodness for that, the wealth is being shared.
(ATL Screening of Lottery Ticket)

With all the message spread out through out the movie, there are definitely many lessons to be learned. We get an opportunity to see how far friendships will go, and how money does not have to change people lives for the worse, but rather enhance them. Amazing what can happen as a result of a small piece of paper.

The one good thing I liked about this movie was that everyone could definitely relate to the subject matter of the film.I love the fact that you leave away from the theater with several positive messages. The young and old could learn a thing or two about the the 'rags to riches' lifestyle.

I Like 'The Other Guys'

Let me first start out by saying that I was dying of laughter after watching this movie. Will Ferrell never ceases to amaze me!! This was definitely a great time for this flick to come out, and to think it knocked the box office hit Inception out of the #1 spot in its opening weekend!!

Well there is one thing for sure, you will not get a complaint out of me about this film, from the moment that screen lit up I was hooked!!

The mix between the dry humor and the downright hilarious humor is tremendous it pretty much is the icing on the cake of chemistry between Mark Walhberg and Will Ferrell. I was curious how the two of them were going to pull off the character partnership, well no more doubts in my mind. I'm actually pretty interested in how these two got linked together, definitely worked out for the better (unlike its counterpart film Cop Out).

In this movie we get a chance to appreciate each and every character no matter how long they are in the film. One character in particular is that of Mark Whalberg's in this film. Keeping in mind we have seen him play a serious cop like the one in The Departed, but in The Other Guys we get to see the serious cop, but one that takes on a comedic form. And I love it!! It definitely shows his range as a all-around great actor. Now another one that folks may have missed is that of comedian Damon Wayans' son Damon Wayans Jr. put it like this, "like father, like son". And he definitely does not fall far from the tree. All in all, there is no one person that steals the show, they all pretty much work off the other, so that everyone gets their "shine on".

Now with this flick under his belt director Adam McKay is definitely on the verge of being a household name. For all you movie buffs you will recognize his previous work with Will Ferrell in which magic happens. The former "Saturday Night Live" writer directed Ferrell in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), and the soon-to-be classic Talladega Nights (2006). As director and co-writer of The Other Guys, McKay clearly pulls out all the best qualities out of Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and the rest of the cast. In a nutshell, he combines action and comedy better than a lot of comedies that I have seen in a long time.

Oh and I can't forget the wooden gun....trust me I will not spoil, you gotta see it to get the full effect!! That and the cocaine covered Prius...(priceless moments!)

This movie has enough action to satisfy the plot and very few (if any) twists. It was simple and to the point, which is all that is needed for a comedy like this one. Let me just say this movie is pure enjoyment you will appreciate the wonderful, uplifting, funny time!

Can you Dance...Can you Groove?

Well there was no doubt that the folks in Step 3D can dance...as a matter of fact they had it really going on! Simply put this was your typical feel good dance movie. I will say that it did set itself apart from some of its previous counterparts (You Got Served, Save the Last Dance, Take the Lead, How She Move, etc.) Now grant it after seeing one dance movie they all begin to resemble, however with Step Up 3 we are able to get an updated freshness.

I loved the fact that it starts out by asking one simple question..."why do you dance?". Although it might have an obvious answer, the audience is able to delve into the true realities of the dance world. You can't help but get your groove on with each minute that passes, that's how much the dancing blew me away. There's also a lot more dancing than acting I would say, and in actuality that's really not a bad thing. To be honest, I came really for the dancing and the music.

Now I did have just a few minor gripes, the fact that it takes place in New York versus Baltimore takes away from the originality. With it being in the NY you already know the scenario. Also the fact that the storyline predictable doesn't give a boost, but if you don't mind that then you are pretty much straight.

On the flip side it was good to see some new blood in that of T-witch (from last season's SYTYCD), we get the opportunity to see the rise of some up and coming dancers/choreographers. In essence you get to appreciate this great art form. To many people, dancing is like a "mysterious force", and a "way of life". Trust me people truly do believe in this. Just like one would believe in the power of music or art and or any other aesthetic field.

This movie does its job in two simple ways...through the dance and its music! I can't even front I had to go get the soundtrack so that I could be jamming right along with the movie. (Sidenote: No need to really see in 3D you will get the same effect and spend less money.)

So the question remains...When was the last time you came out of a movie genuinely smiling and feeling good?

Taraji P. Henson gets 'Rough' role

In From the Rough, the Oscar-nominated Taraji P. Henson will be taking on the role inspired by Dr. Catana Starks, the first female head coach of an NCAA Division One Men's team. Independent motion picture company, Gyre Entertainment is set to produce the sports drama, which will begin filming in New Orleans with an early October 4th start date.

Henson will play a fictionalized version of Starks named Cassandra Turner, who manages to have a successful stint as coach of the women's swim team at a historically black college into getting a shot at building a men's golf team. With a sparse amount of black players, Turner seeks for hidden talent in  Europe, Australia and Asia thus constructing a uniquely multi-racial team. (Note: Starks was the golf coach at Tennessee State University.)

"This extraordinary film explores one's ability to transform life's rough circumstances into distinct advantages," said director-producer Pierre Bagley. "It confronts issues of race, gender, class and cultural barriers in ways that are provocative, and sometimes hilarious.

Michael A. Critelli wrote the screenplay and will be an executive producer along with Kevin E. Hooks.

Good move Ms. Henson! Looking forward to it!

GA Suburb set to film 'Footloose' remake

Looks like the small city/town of Covington, Georgia may be getting a little taste of Hollywood. Filming of the remake of the popular 1984 film about a city boy comes to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned, and gets a bad case of culture shock is taking place in Georgia. It has been said that location scouts have been keeping their eyes open to the Newton County Historic Courthouse for a courtroom scene.

The film which is being directed by Craig Brewer, stars Dennis Quaid, two-time “Dancing With the Stars” champion Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald as Ren McCormack, the role originally made famous by Kevin Bacon.

Chairman Kathy Morgan believes the film industry tends to bring money to the county long after crews have packed up and gone home. This way it attracts tourists curious to see where their favorite movies have been shot.

“We want to be a film-friendly community and have a reputation for being easy to work with,” Morgan told the board.

On Thursday (8/5), Morgan said that the agreement to film at the courthouse has not yet been finalized.“We do not have a contract signed, but we have tentatively agreed to save those dates,” she said via e-mail.

'X-Men: First Class' Director Changes Movie Because Of 'Inception'

Now who would have saw this coming possibly Professor X...just maybe. With Inception blazing the Hollywood charts as the number one film for the past three weeks, who would have thought it would effect a future film in such a huge way.

According to X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn, a recent viewing of the blockbuster Christopher Nolan film forced him to change his own movie because of similarities to Inception's surreal, zero-gravity, rotating-room fight scenes. Vaughn explained his changes to the L.A. Times: "I saw Inception, which I loved, but my heart sank when I saw that a few of the ideas we had were up [on the screen]. So it's either leave it in and look as if you're copying or change things. We completely ripped out about 12 pages of the script and the storyboards."

I gotta hand it to him, that was very big of him to revamp his material, at least he is trying to be original and be authentic as possible, versus taking the easy route and giving the impression of borrowing material.

Forbes Top 10 Highest-Paid Hollywood Actresses

Hollywood can be a tough town for women, but these 10 actresses have managed to bring in the big bucks. To figure out earnings Forbes magazine talked to agents, managers, producers and lawyers to determine what stars earned as upfront and back-end pay from June 2009 to June 2010. In addition, other earnings from things like clothing lines, perfume and makeup endorsements were taken into account as well.

1) Sandra Bullock $56 million
With two hit movies (The Proposal and The Blind Side) and an Oscar win, Bullock is pretty much sitting on top of the world, financially!!

2) Reese Witherspoon $32 million
Witherspoon's face hasn't been seen on the big screen since Christmas 2008, when she starred with Vince Vaughn in Four Christmases. She'll return this holiday season with a new James Brooks comedy titled How Do You Know? co-starring Jack Nicholson, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson. Maybe she just needs to work during the holiday to get her big bucks.

3) Cameron Diaz $32 million
Thanks to her work in the Shrek films Diaz has a nice, steady income, but she also gets big bucks to appear in romantic films like the action comedy Knight & Day, co-starring Tom Cruise. Diaz also stars with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake as a foul-mouthed educator in the film Bad Teacher.

4) Jennifer Aniston $27 million
Box-office stinkers like Love Happens and The Bounty Hunter can't stop America's sweetheart. Aniston still gets tons of press attention and decent-sized upfront paydays for romantic comedies like Just Go With It, co-starring Adam Sandler. Aniston also earns from Friends re-runs and a lucrative deal with Glaceau Smartwater.

5) Sarah Jessica Parker $25 million
Between the TV series and movie franchise, Sex and the City will keep Parker in Manolos for years to come. The actress also has a successful line of perfumes that brought in $24 million the U.S. in 2009. Parker is now helping to design clothes for fashion label Halston. Her perfume line, which includes scents like NYC, Lovely, and Dawn, is also a big seller.

6) Julia Roberts $20 million
Roberts is no longer the draw she was in the days of movies like Erin Brockovich and Runaway Bride.Eat Pray Love Instead she is focusing on more personal movies like , based on the bestseller by Elizabeth Gilbert. Roberts will star opposite Tom Hanks for the second time in Larry Crowne, about a man reinventing himself.

7) Angelina Jolie $20 million
The mom of six is a constant tabloid presence with 38 magazine covers in the last 12 months. She also makes movies. Jolie lost some ground this year because she didn't have a new movie in our time frame. But she continues to cement her bankability with big thrillers like Salt and The Tourist, co-starring Johnny Depp.

8) Drew Barrymore $15 million
Barrymore made her directorial debut in 2009 with the film Whip It. Unfortunately it didn't whip up much business at the box office, earning only $17 million globally. Still, Barrymore is working hard to build a career behind the camera. She was the executive producer on the successful film He's Just Not That Into You.

9) Meryl Streep $13 million
At 60 Streep is still big at the box office. She had two hits in 2009 with Julie & Julia and It's Complicated, which earned a collective $350 million at the global box office. She also earned a record 16th Oscar nomination for her work as chef Julia Child. No plans have been made yet for the actress next film.

10) Kristen Stewart $12 million
The 20-year-old Stewart is recognizable to teens around the world as Bella, the human caught between a vampire and a werewolf in the Twilight series. The movies have so far earned $1.6 billion at the box office and made Stewart a star. She stretched her wings this year with the rock biopic The Runaways, playing Joan Jett.

Halle Berry Staying Busy!!

Just think in less than a month, Ms. Halle Berry has truly made her mark in the entertainment world with her name being attached to three films and a Broadway play. As of right now she is making a big splash with her most recent endeavor Dark Tide, where she plays Sara, a modern-day adventurer, deeply drawn to close encounters with the magnificent White Sharks who rule the primal predator shore of isolated Guadalupe Island.

Now once filming is over with Dark Tide, she will start working on two more films. One which is, Shoe Addicts Anonymous is an ensemble film that will follow the lives of four Chicago women from different ethnic backgrounds with two common bonds: They are shoe addicts and they wear the same sizes. They form a support group, swap heels and become sole sisters as their bond goes beyond footwear. Also, The Playlist.com is reporting that Berry has also been offered a role in Tom Tykwer's latest film, Cloud Atlas, alongside Tom Hanks, James McAvoy, Natalie Portman, and Ian McKellen.

'Based on the novel of the same name by David Mitchell, the story centers around six characters: a reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan's California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified "dinery server" on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilization - the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other's echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.'

And to top that all off, in between films, Berry is slated to star on Broadway in Katori Hall's "The Mountaintop," where she will portray a hotel maid who delivers a meal to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, on the evening before his assassination.

I'm not even mad at ya Ms. Berry!! Gotta keep yourself relevant in the film world!
