High Action For Ya!!

If you remember watching Crank and telling yourself this looks very familiar then you are right on the money, Lakeshore Entertainment re-teamed with Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the creators of Crank to bring to you the science-fiction, action thriller Gamer. Now another thing I noticed was that this film seriously reminded me of Death Race (2008), considering that came out about this same time last year. I had to come in with an objective mindset, so that I would not end up comparing the two. However, that was a bit difficult.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Gerard Butler ever since 300, partly because he is able to play any role, but his one should have been left on the side. It just does not seem as though there is a great effort placed in this role. one thing I will say is that the directors and producers definitely know how to incorporate the music and action if nothing else. One might think that this movie rides a fine line similar to that of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Running Man, although it does somewhat stand on its own.

The film to a certain degree rushes itself, eventually slowing down to a decent pace at the end, presenting an ending that is very fitting and entertaining. The interesting thing is that the film does do a good job of creating a world that could potentially exist. No matter how disturbing some elements in the film may be, they seem to have an air of truth, which elevates this film to a "just-above-average" rating.

Gamer is one of those films that you might lose a little interest in the beginning, but midway through you will be more engaged. All in all, there is plenty of action to keep you entertained just not sure if it is truly noteworthy.

In the end, you may bring yourself to wonder this simple thought, when playing online games, who hides behind the characters?
