The Expendables...Old Timers doing their thing!!

This was the perfect movie to see for my birthday weekend!! ACTION...ACTION...and MORE ACTION!!

If there was a movie that Sylvester Stallone needed to make a comeback with, this was the perfect fit! To thinks that he has a about a decade full of failed flicks The Expendables really blew it out the water for me. I was beginning to think all he was good for was 'Rambo' and 'Rocky'...he proved me wrong! The film showcases a group of elite mercenaries, tasked with a mission to overthrow a Latin American dictator. It does a great job of  paying homage to the blockbuster action films of the 1980s and early 1990s, and stars an array of action veterans from those decades!

For me going into this film, I just really was hoping for a good, solid action film and in the end it turned out to be one of the best action hero line ups in cinematic history.  It is easily much more graphic and gory than most modern day action films, but this gives the film much more depth in addition to creating a degree of realism. There is this constant pumping of adrenaline coated with a huge rush of  laughter. You can help but hold on to your seat and just enjoy this thrill ride! Now grant it the plot is no where near original but what movie is these days. At least it wasn't like they were beating a dead horse, in essence they were more like reviving one.

Along with a wonderful supporting cast (Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, as well as others) it gave you that flavor that you have been wanting to just crave and attack. Of course there is the obvious highlight between the friendship of Stallon and Statham's charcter, but it still does not outweigh what the other have to offer. With the twisting subplots (Lundgren), and the constant humor and jokes (Crews & Li) you are sure to get a treat! The cast was perfect picked, I wouldn't have changed it at all!

In addition to your good guys, the nemesis of the film is given an excellent portrayal of the mean, dirty, and grimy villain who is played by Eric Roberts. And I can't forget his trusty henchman  Stone Cold Steve Austin a role that definitely gives him more credibility in the film world that is. And even though we only see them for a brief moment Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger give the audience a moment to say yay they still got it!

The note-worthy thing about this film is that even if it there was not an all-star cast it still would have had the potential to be a great action movie, the fact it has such a jaw dropping cast is icing on the cake!! The Expendables is what you would call a fan-base movie!! Everyone that you love is put into one movie, for your entertainment pleasure!! In the end, this movie proved that an old dog can still learn new tricks...lol!!
