Can you Dance...Can you Groove?

Well there was no doubt that the folks in Step 3D can dance...as a matter of fact they had it really going on! Simply put this was your typical feel good dance movie. I will say that it did set itself apart from some of its previous counterparts (You Got Served, Save the Last Dance, Take the Lead, How She Move, etc.) Now grant it after seeing one dance movie they all begin to resemble, however with Step Up 3 we are able to get an updated freshness.

I loved the fact that it starts out by asking one simple question..."why do you dance?". Although it might have an obvious answer, the audience is able to delve into the true realities of the dance world. You can't help but get your groove on with each minute that passes, that's how much the dancing blew me away. There's also a lot more dancing than acting I would say, and in actuality that's really not a bad thing. To be honest, I came really for the dancing and the music.

Now I did have just a few minor gripes, the fact that it takes place in New York versus Baltimore takes away from the originality. With it being in the NY you already know the scenario. Also the fact that the storyline predictable doesn't give a boost, but if you don't mind that then you are pretty much straight.

On the flip side it was good to see some new blood in that of T-witch (from last season's SYTYCD), we get the opportunity to see the rise of some up and coming dancers/choreographers. In essence you get to appreciate this great art form. To many people, dancing is like a "mysterious force", and a "way of life". Trust me people truly do believe in this. Just like one would believe in the power of music or art and or any other aesthetic field.

This movie does its job in two simple ways...through the dance and its music! I can't even front I had to go get the soundtrack so that I could be jamming right along with the movie. (Sidenote: No need to really see in 3D you will get the same effect and spend less money.)

So the question remains...When was the last time you came out of a movie genuinely smiling and feeling good?
