Rewind Wednesday: Classic 80's The Goonies

I know you missed the last couple Rewind Wedneday's but I promise you this one will make up for that. Today's feature is a classic 80's film The Goonies!!

The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure-comedy film directed by Richard Donner. A band of kids from the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, hoping to save their homes from demolition, go on an adventure to find the buried treasure of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate.

Watching The Goonies is like watching your dreams unfold right before your eyes. Its a timeless adventure that will bring you back to childhood! These kids were the best of buddies, and when you think about it you probably had a group of peers just like this then and maybe even now. As the film goes on, we can see how closer the friends get and how supportive we all should be. They would always be there for each other, no matter how deep their problems are. It's like the perfect kids film.

Probably everyone as a kid wanted to be a part of "The Goonies". One might say that this movie can be seen kind of like a time capsule, because you can tell that it was made in the 80's, but it'll forever remain a treasure that will pass on from generation to the next. Now that it is twenty years old, it stands forever as a relic of a time when the world of those under the age of eighteen was far less oppressive.

A film sequel, something long desired by fans, has been discussed. Donner said that he had a story he liked and Spielberg behind him, but in 2004 several of the actors from the original revealed that Warner Brothers, the copyright holder, had shown no interest in a sequel. In October of 2008 Director Richard Donner would tell Variety, "We tried really hard, and Steven (Spielberg) said, 'Let's do it.' We had a lot of young writers submit work, but it just didn't seem to call for it."

So if you have never seen The Goonies (shame on you), you must immediately go to your nearest video rental store get and watch it right now!! And if you have kids sit them down, hold their hand through the scary bits and enjoy! Trust me they will thank you in twenty years time!! I literally can watch this movie over and over and over again.

Who wants to be a Goonie?!!
