Orlando Bloom to play villain in new 3D 'Three Musketeers' film

Orlando Bloom has signed on to join the ensemble cast of Paul W.S. Anderson's "The Three Musketeers." British actor James Corden has also joined the 3D movie, which will shoot late this summer for a summer 2011 release.

Bloom will play the Duke of Buckingham, the arch-nemesis to the Musketeers who is described as "so cool that you can chop him into cubes and serve with vodka." The Elizabethtown star joins a cast which includes Christoph Waltz as Cardinal Richelieu, Logan Lerman as D'Artagnan, Matthew MacFadyen as Athos, Ray Stevenson as Porthos, Luke Evans as Aramis, Milla Jovovich as Lady De Winter, James Corden as Planchet and Mads Mikkelsen as Rochefort.

"We are definitely modernizing 'The Three Musketeers' without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece," Anderson said of his version of the classic film. "In our film, corsets and feathered hats don't take center stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure."

The film is to begin shooting in the fall, with a 3-D release date of Summer 2011.
