Trailer Alert: New Indie Horror short film "Danger Word"

Here is a short film that I have literally invested in, because I believe we need more films of this type that need to be highlighted and showcased! It's about time that we get to see a Black/African American indie/horror story. I hope this is the beginning of more stories of this nature, maybe even an Octavia Butler film!!

Husband and wife team Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes have hit the jackpot with this one. As a fan of horror and sci-fi films this short film definitely piqued my interest and has me yearning for more.

So just in case you have not heard about the film here is a brief synopsis:

DANGER WORD is a short horror film in post-production, directed by Luchina Fisher (Death in the Family), adapted for the scree by award-winning writers Steven Barnes ("The Outer Limits", "Andromeda") and Tananarive Due ("My Soul to Keep"). 

This film is about a 13-year old girl and her grandfather who have survived the zombie plague in his wooded cabin-and how her birthday goes badly awry. The film stars Frankie Faison ("The Wire", Silence of the Lambs) and Saoirse Scott (The Hunger Games, "One Life to Live")

Although the film has reached its goal funding wise you can still contribute to the post-production!
And if you are into reading you may want to check "The Living Dead 2" which is where the original story came from as well as the novels "Devil's Wake" and "Domino Falls", the series that grew from the original short story.

Teaser Trailer Alert: "The Inheritance"

Robert O'Hara is making his directorial debut with teaser trailer to The Inheritance. The film is produced by Effie T. Brown and her production company, Duly Noted Inc.

Five cousins find out about a centuries old family ritual of sacrifice to an African spirit and must fight for their lives or take their place in a long line of offered souls.

The story centers on family friends (played by Golden Brooks, Darrin Dewitt Henson, Rochelle Aytes, Shawn Michael Howard, and D.B. Woodside) who gather during a winter storm for a 'secret' reunion at the family estate. The connection to their tortured history is one of only passing fascination. The reunion turns deadly when the elders have to make good on an ancient pact with a spirit of an ancestor. Now, it's this generation's turn to make the ultimate sacrifice. It is their duty and their destiny, but they won't give up without a fight to survive.

Also starring in the film are Keith David, Novella Nelson, Adriane Lenox, Andre De Shields, and Lanre Idewu. 

The film was previously known as My Place in the Horror.

Rewind Wednesday: Halloween Edition

With Halloween right around the corner, it would be right if I didn't do a double feature on two classic scary/horror flicks. I figure I give you one that has a little bit of the guts & gore, and then one that truly was scary with such ease. First up is that of the 1988 horror film Child's Play.

After 6-year-old Andy Barclays (Alex Vincent) babysitter is violently pushed out of a window to her death, nobody believes him when he says that Chucky, his new birthday doll, did it! Until things start going terribly wrongdead wrong. And when an ensuing rampage of gruesome murders lead a detective (Chris Sarandon) back to the same toy, he discovers that the real terror has just begunthe deranged doll has plans to transfer his evil spirit into a living human being - young Andy!



Critical reviews were very positive, with Roger Ebert calling it "an effective horror film." Child's Play is a movie that probably succeeded because it was in the right place at the right time.

And second is that of the classic technicolor (black and white...for those that didn't have a color tv...lol) horror film, The Birds.

The story begins as an innocuous romantic triangle involving wealthy, spoiled Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren), handsome Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), and schoolteacher Annie Hayworth (Suzanne Pleshette). The human story begins in a San Francisco pet shop and culminates at the home of Mitch's mother (Jessica Tandy) at Bodega Bay, where the characters' sense of security is slowly eroded by the curious behavior of the birds in the area. At first, it's no more than a sea gull swooping down and pecking at Melanie's head. Things take a truly ugly turn when hundreds of birds converge on a children's party. There is never an explanation as to why the birds have run amok, but once the onslaught begins, there's virtually no letup.
