Updates on 'X-Men: First Class' Film
With the pool of black actresses to fill the role that Halle Berry plays in the original installments, the pickings are slim. You've got Zoe Saldana and Meagan Good as the only easy fills for that role and Zoe's price is on cloud nine after scoring big in Avatar. Meagan Good is the clear choice for X-Men: First Class. How long before she gets that phone call?
Not sure how I feel about her as Storm but if true this will definitely be something to see...

Director Bryan Singer to return for 'X-Men : First Class'*
Bryan Singer is returning to Fox Studios for another "X-Men" movie. Singer, who directed the first two installments before famously jumping ship to make Superman Returns, has signed on to develop and direct “X-Men: First Class.”
The story is still in the early stages of development but will deal with the first meeting of Charles Xavier and Magneto and involve the creation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, the school masquerading as the headquarters of the X-Men.
“First Class” takes its name from a Marvel Comics limited series written by Jeff Parker. Josh Schwartz wrote an earlier draft of the script.
We could potentially see another "X-Men" movie as early as next summer. This should be interesting! As a huge X-Men fan, definitely looking forward to what this project will produce.

'Dark Knight' sequel gets official release date!*
Warner Bros. has set July 20, 2012, as the release date for the third Christopher Nolan-directed Batman movie.
There is no title as this point and no start date.
With Batman 3 on the docket, summer 2012 is shaping up to be one of the greater geek movie seasons. Marvel’s “The Avengers” is slated to come out May 4, board game adaptation “Battleship” leaves port May 25, the “Star Trek” sequel beams up June 29, and the rebooted “Spider-Man” swings into theaters on July 3.
2012 is giving the current year a run for its money!

World Trade Center writer joins N.W.A. film*
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Andrea Berloff, who wrote Oliver Stone's true-life movie "World Trade Center", is tackling the story of seminal rap group N.W.A.
Berloff is writing "Straight Outta Compton," the story of the rise and fall of the Compton, Calif.-based group, whose initials read Niggas With Attitude. The members included drug dealer turned label founder Easy E, young disc jockey Dr. Dre and the politically bent Ice Cube, plus MC Ren and DJ Yella.
"As the group rose, however, egos and jealousies surfaced."
Having a white writer on black-themed projects, especially biopics, is a fairly recent trend. Sheldon Turner penned a draft of the Rick James project "Super Freak," while Brad Kane wrote the draft of the Richard Pryor project that attracted director Bill Condon.
Something even more noteworthy is that the person tackling the N.W.A. adaptation is a white woman. Hmmm...very interesting, definitely something to chew on.

Nothing More than a Disappointment....
Imagine cringing to your seat during the 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street....now fast forward to today and picture yourself just throwing good money away down the toilet. This is the exact emotion I felt after watching the 2010 version of the 1984 film. As someone who is a fan of true horror/scary movies, this one did not really impress me at all. And trust me I went in with a very objective mindset, but still a fail.
I figured if nothing else that this remake would be entertaining, and boy was I wrong. One might figure that they had time on their side to really create a horror film to go down in the history books. Well it did do that, but it probably will be remembered for how bad it was versus a decent remake.
I could preach a sermon as to all the mistakes through out this movie, but I'd rather not. Let me just point out some of the more treacherous mistake. First, the CGI is nothing more than a mere distraction, almost like an annoying knat buzzing in your face; when you are at the point when things look too perfect it pretty much loses its believability. For example, when Freddy bends the wall above Nancy. In the original it was much more creepier and it was produced in camera. Next the kills left me bored, basically to the point of slumber. "I fall asleep, Freddy shows up, Freddy says something, I'm stabbed, I'm dead" (wow!). Remember Rod (1984) being slowly strangled by bed sheets? Now not only was that was scary, but pretty darn creative (especially for its time) AND it left people thinking that maybe Nancy was imagining Freddy and that Rod had pretty much hung himself.
Lastly, the film spends the bulk of the film uncovering Freddy's "story," as if we don't know the story already, you even know it without seeing the film. Now there is a brief momemt (and trust me it is just that) where it plays with a slight twist of the original plot – a moment of clarity mixed with creativity, a rose blooming on a cloudy day – then it is immediately destroyed....ruined.
Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 was more like a terrible modern high school cliff-notes adaptation than a remake. Nothing new was even remotely brought to the table and not even an ounce of improvement was made either.
This is one of those films that is better left alone. No need to change, fix, replicate, reproduce, just let it be.
Grade: D
