New Trailer Alert!! Halle Berry's 'Frankie & Alice'

Based on the true story of Frankie Murdoch, Halle plays a woman with multiple personality disorder, which calls on her use different accents, multiple character development and to age before our eyes.

Might even have a little Oscar bee buzzing around it. Just maybe. Frankie and Alice, also stars Stellan Skarsgård, Phylicia Rashad, and Chandra Wilson of TV's 'Grey's Anatomy.  The film is directed by Geoffrey Sax.



I have definitely been keeping up with this film and anxiously awaiting its premiere. This is truly a touching story sure to get some buzz!!


Frankie and Alice opens on December 10, 2010 (right in the nick of 'Oscar' time) at the Landmark Nuart Theater in Los Angeles, before its official release on February 4, 2011.

Breaking News!! 'Naked Gun' Star Leslie Nielsen Dies

"Surely you can't be serious," an airline passenger says to Nielsen in Airplane! the 1980 hit that turned the actor from dramatic leading man to comic star.

"I am serious," Nielsen replies. "And don't call me Shirley." This line was probably his most famous — and a perfect distillation of his career.

The bumbling detective in The Naked Gun comedies, died on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was 84.

The Canada native died from complications from pneumonia at a hospital near his home, surrounded by his wife, Barbaree, and friends, his agent John S. Kelly said in a statement. "We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in 'The Naked Gun' series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television," said Kelly.



This guy is definitely going to be missed. I was just watching Airplane the other day thinking how hilarious Nielsen was as an actor!

Several critics argued he was being type-cast, however Nielsen disagreed, saying comedy was what he intended to do all along.

"Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman", now that's an interesting book to base your movie after. But for director Edward Zwick it worked. Remember back in the 80's when pharmaceutical companies were on the rise, well this movie definitely transports you back in time when sales reps were pushing it hard and heavy!!

Maggie (Hathaway) is an alluring free spirit who won't let anyone - or anything - tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Maggie and Jamie's evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love.

After watching this film you will sit back and say wow, who would have thought. With this movie we get the package deal, surprising and great acting, believable storyline, and moments of saddness along with some comic relief. It's your typical romantic-comedy, that even a secure man can watch and not feel all gushy inside. Now what I really like what Zwick did with this film is that you inadvertently ask several question that society needs to confront: the role of the pharmaceutical industry in the medical-industrial complex, how we treat people with incurable diseases, and how people with incurable diseases search for cures.

Love & Other Drugs is the typical movie that will definitely be a film to get your critical juices flowing as well as a big commercial hit. Finally we get another movie that gives us a realistic storyline that we can honestly believe. In particualr Anne Hathaway who plays a very convincing woman who suffers from stage 1 of Parkinson's. As an audience member we got the opportunity to be enlightened about the pitfalls of Parkinson and the job of 'legitimate' Pharmaceutical sales. Anne showcases a rebel trying to find her way. And with some help from Jake Gyllenhal's character, who to me really takes a journey of self-development and renewal. (This role puts him back on my good list and you will see why if you have seen Prince of Persia.) Both characters have this chemistry that works, and truly shines on the screen.

This is a movie that honestly speaks the truth. It may not necessarily be an "Oscar-caliber" film but not every movie is meant to be. In many cases smart entertainment is the better route, that's where the true reward come into play. Sometimes you have to give up that old self so that you can make room for the new one. Love is a funny thing in that you will do either something crazy, something amazing, or a combination of both.

Unstoppable!! Must-See!

This is definitely what I would like to call a "thrill-ride" of a movie! With many great films under his belt (Man on Fire & Deja Vu) director Tony Scott teams up with actor Denzel Washington for their fifth collaboration. This is another fine example of an action that truly works!!


The setup is pretty simple and to the point. On one side of the track there is the rookie conductor Will Colson (Chris Pine), who is paired with veteran railroad engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington). Now Frank and Will each definitely have their own share of problems (ex. family) and of course each have their own reservations of the other. So one can pretty much assume that there's a fair bit of tension between the two considering Will is seen as the company's "new blood" employed to replace the older workers (Frank included) who have been forced to retire one by one.

Within the first 10 minutes you are engaged in the fast-paced action and it just doesn't let go. Think of this movie as the velocity of Speed with the tension and dark humor of the Die Hard films, and to top it off we get a stellar cast that definitely stands on its own.

Technical wise, Unstopple is beyond amazing!! You can't beat when all of the films action sequences are filmed with REAL trains and REAL destruction and mayhem, (now that's what you call an authentic action-thriller). And for all those action junkies you will definitely get a high dose of adrenaline rush, its the perfect eye-candy. In addition to using the "real deal", another wise thing that Scott does which helps the movie is that the sensationalism is very much toned down so that the audience is able to enjoy thrills that the movie had to offer (and trust me there are several). Its actually quite amazing the choice of shots that Scott uses, especially the many shots underneath the train. 

Trust me when I tell you that your heart will beat faster and faster as you watch failed attempts to stop the train, which adds this surge of more power, giving the audience a realistic idea of how "unstoppable" this train truly is...can you imagine 10M pounds of force going full-steam ahead?!!

And the icing on the cake is the fact that Scott and writer Mark Bomback are able to give this portrayal of  Frank and Will's as everyday men with real-life concerns over livelihood and family. They make the point loud and clear later that that real-life heroes can be ordinary men who do extraordinary acts in the face of danger.

One can truly reap the benefits of seeing Unstoppable on the big screen in a cinema the surround sound, the camera work and soundtrack make a perfect combination.

Maybe now Tony can tell his brother Ridley I got one up on you (lol)!

Possible Actresses for Nolan's 'Dark Knight Rises'

Christopher Nolan is scheduled to meet with six actresses during the next couple weeks to cast two female lead roles in The Dark Knight Rises. The list of potential actresses includes Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.

Just last week rumor has it that Charlize Theron and Vera Farmiga were leading candidates to nab the two roles. However it seems as though they are no longer on the list.

All that is known for now is that one of the roles is a love interest for Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne and the other is a villain.

So who should stay, be deleted, or added?

Famed and Acclaimed Film Producer Dino De Laurentiis Dies at 91

Dino De Laurentiis, one of the last great, intrepid film producers who with unmatched showmanship shepherded movies as varied as La Strada and Barbarella, has died on Wednesday. He was 91.

"My grandfather was a true inspiration. He was my biggest champion in life and a constant source for wisdom and advice. I will miss him dearly," granddaughter Giada De Laurentiis, a star chef and host on Food Network, said Thursday.

"Our industry is a special one," he told The Associated Press in 1998. "You deal every day with different people, creative people. Every day is different at work. To produce a movie, you have to create the star, you make script, you find director. You have to shoot the movie."

"Dino always said you need three things in life: brains, heart and balls, and I hope I've exemplified that advice throughout my career," Schwarzenegger said Thursday in a statement. "`Neorealism' was invented by newspapers," De Laurentiis once scoffed while speaking about the Italian New Wave films. "Italian industry was so poor we had no money for studio, to create the set, to go anyplace. So we had to shoot everything in the street."

As an entrepreneur, De Laurentiis, pioneered the way films were sold internationally — and did it all in grand style.

"My philosophy is very simple," he once said. "To feel young, you must work as long as you can."

Liam Neeson replaces Mel Gibson in 'Hangover 2'

Well I guess the come-back rumors can be laid to rest. As mentioned in a previous post actor Mel Gibson was potentially being considered to have a cameo role in the upcoming flick Hangover 2. Many had said this might help to give a new "lease on life" for his acting career. Not anymore! Taken star Liam Neeson will be taking over Gibson's spot.

Recently, Neeson has spoken about his much-talked about cameo appearance in the upcoming Hangover 2 film. "Apparently, yes [the part was Mel's] -- I didn't realize it at the time," Liam told Access* on Tuesday at the premiere for his new film, The Next Three Days.

"I spoke to Mel. Mel's cool about it. We're all cool," he continued.

Neeson has said he has a good rapport with the headline-making actor (the two worked together in 1984 on The Bounty), and described their conversation regarding the Hangover 2 replacement as "very pleasant."

As it pertains to the original 'Hangover' film Liam is definitely a fan - despite not seeing the hilarious film during its original run in theaters.

"I saw ['Hangover'] in Berlin," Liam smiled. "It was one of those nights flicking through channels and it came on and I don't think I've laughed harder in my life."

We will get to catch Liam, along with Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha, when Hangover 2 hits theaters on May 26, 2011.

Jeffrey Wright is entering the sci-fi world as he joins Jake Gyllenhaal in Duncan Jones' Source Code, which also stars Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan.

Director Duncan Jones (Moon) is back with a new sci-fi thriller movie titled Source Code. The story revolves around a soldier (Jake Gyllenhaal) who wakes up as part of an experimental government program to investigate a terrorist incident, and finds himself in the body of an unknown commuter living and reliving a harrowing train bombing until he can find out who is responsible for it.

Source Code is set to hit theaters on April 15th, 2011.

Due Date: Not on 'The Hangover' level but still worth the ticket

High-strung father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time. 

First thing that comes to mind after watching this film is the 1987 movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles starring Steve Martin and John Candy. Two polar opposite people that must get along in order to get to their destinations.  Director Todd Phillips (The Hangover) pretty much follows this same path with his new flick, Due Date.

Like Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Due Date takes us on a  journey of the two characters which ultimately provides the heart of the story. You have a stressed out Peter who wants totally wants to ditch and screw over his "newfound buddy" Ethan however the simplicity of  Ethan's minuscule intelligence makes this task a bit difficult. So rather than being two clashing personalities, their relationship remains zestful through the entire film. Plus the storyline is interesting enough to where the predictable gags don't run (nor ruin) the movie.

Don't just think of this movie as just another buddy comedy, but more so think of the fact that these two actors (Downey Jr & Galifianakis) probably would have never worked together any other time, but since they have it creates a perfect equation for comedic success. After seeing Robert Downey Jr in a film like this after his career exploded from doing Iron Man actually gives me more of an appreciation for him as an actor. At least we know he's not trying to be type-casted. It helps to mix it up every now and then. And Zach Galifianakis never ceases to amaze us with his comedic abilities. He just seems to just have that skill. But in actuality it's the chemistry between both Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr that truly makes this particular comedy feel a bit more genuine than maybe some other comedies.

Due Date is certainly funny, but more so on a smaller scale with particular moments and quotes. Needless to say there's never really a dull moment in this movie, despite the fact a few serious moments do exist.

Due Date is a movie that definitely satisfies its audience but not really anything more. And even though the characters do their job in making you laugh,  unfortunately the writing is perhaps somewhat "hit or miss". All in all, it may not be the next "Hangover" or John Hughes quality film but it does make the movie experience worth its while.

Rating:  2.5 Stars out 4 Stars

Megamind (PG): 

DreamWorks Animation presents this satirical take on the superhero genre focusing on a down-and-out super-villain (voiced by Will Ferrell) who has to learn how to get his groove back when he's left without an arch nemesis in this comedy from director Tom McGrath.

Due Date (R): 

Director Todd Phillips re-teams with his break-out Hangover star Zach Galifianakis for this road movie concerning a soon-to-be father (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and his cross-country trip to make it back in time for his baby's birth -- with the only roadblock being the dubious passenger (Galifianakis) who's along for the ride. 

For Colored Girls (R): 

Based on Ntozake Shange's award-winning 1975 play, which consists of a series of poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color. It deals with such subjects as love, abandonment, rape, and abortion.

Four Lions (R): 

Four Lions proves that while terrorism may be about ideology, it’s also about idiots. In a British city, four men have a secret plan.

127 Hours (R):

For his feature debut, writer-director Damien Chazelle has fashioned a contemporary musical, shot in 16 mm black-and-white on the streets of Boston and New York. During the film's opening credits, we learn that Guy (professional musician Jason Palmer), a trumpet player, and Madeline (Desiree Garcia), a grad student looking for work, have broken up.

Red Hill (R): 

A young policeman is the only thing that stands between a small town and a pack of vicious outlaws in this Western drama from Australia.

For Colored Girls...Breathtaking!

Let me first start out by say that I am a huge fan of both the book and the play (read and seen the play). It truly gives a microscopic view of the struggles that woman endure and in particular that of the "black woman". (DISCLAIMER: This is a film for mature audiences.)

"Many voices. One poem."

Tyler Perry's adaptation of Ntozake Shange's 1975 stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf  give the audience an opportunity to view this prolific play Retaining the play's poetic style, the film's lead cast consists of eight African-American women, seven of whom are based on the play's seven characters only known by color ("Lady in Red", "Lady in Blue", "Lady in Yellow" etc). Like its source material, each character deals with a different personal conflict, such as love, abandonment, rape, infidelity, and abortion.

 The movie takes a very fluid and beautiful approach. The words of Ntozake Shange are so poetic, this plays like a musical.... each person takes the words, adds character, and makes them weave together with an elegant harmony that echoes long after leaving the theater. With this film we get to see an impressive cast of African American women stand up and take charge in the film.

Keep in mind, there are some minor distractions, for example they have a room with a plasma TV, but the phone is on the wall with the old cords. It's still not enough to take away from the film. Despite the minor flaws, it still showcases its message to the audience. Another point to mention that can be a good thing or a bad would be that of the way the film is deliverered. I will not give it away, but I will say some may like others may not be too fond of it. For me it worked!

Now I must mention the exceptional group of women and men that make up this cast. This was a perfectly constructed cast that truly pushes the mark and showcases a variety of raw to the expereinced talent of African American actors & actresses. I was quite pleased with the portrayals of each character. Even with the roles of the men they are not overshadowed by the women, more so an accent to a beautiful portait. One cast member in particular definitely needs to be mentioned. Kimberly Elise in particular definitely deserving of an Oscar Nomination or at least the consideration. Once again many sleep on this amazing actress who time and time again pulls us in and doesn't let us down. Her performance in particular is breath-taking....spellbinding!! She is long overdue and her acting was TOP-NOTCH and so on point!!!!!!!

This is such a powerful movie that it is more than just a poem from a book, it is a reality that exist. 

For Colored Girls is captivating, moving, and truly gets your mind churning. For me after watching this film it confirmed my belief that when women band together they can truly heal souls. As Ntozake Shange say's "Where there is woman there is magic." And this films is truly magical in that we the audience get to see the lives of these women unfold right before our eyes. Keep in mind this is an adaptation put to film (quite a good one) so the expectation needs to be a realistic one when approaching it.

Go with your girls, take your mom, your sister, your auntie, your brother, your husband, etc. Trust me Tyler Perry did his thing!! I know many have criticize Perry for taking on this movie, but I beg to disagree. You know I am honest when it comes to my critique of films. I wouldn't steer you wrong folks!
